What people ask before they ask us
Most of it comes down to three things: what we do, where we do it, and what happens when the record is not there. Those answers are below, in plain language.
What does No Wind Required actually do?
We request public records from county and town offices and report what they show, in plain language. Property and permit history, water right and ditch indexes, business license listings, short-term rental filings. You get a written summary with the source of every line.
Which counties and towns do you cover?
Eagle County, Summit County, Pitkin County and Garfield County, plus the towns of the Vail Valley: Avon, Vail, Eagle, Minturn and Edwards. That boundary is deliberate. A desk that covers everything covers nothing well.
What if the record does not exist?
You get that in writing too. We list the offices and indexes we searched and state plainly that the record is not held. A documented dead end closes a question instead of feeding it, and it saves you from searches that will not pay off.
Are you lawyers? Is this legal advice?
No, and it is not. We are a research desk. We report what the record says and where it comes from. Interpreting what it means for your legal position is work for a licensed attorney.
Can I get certified copies through you?
Certified copies come from the custodian that holds the record, under that office's own rules. We report what the index shows and where the document sits, so you know exactly which office to ask.
How does a request start?
Email, phone, or the form on the contact page. An address, a parcel identifier, a business name or a plain question is enough. We tell you which office holds what you are asking about and what the request needs to contain before anything goes in.
How long does it take?
That depends on the office holding the record, and we will not invent a number. We track every request, tell you what the office says, and chase it when it goes quiet.
Does this website take payment?
No. This site sells nothing and takes no payments. It publishes information about the work and accepts enquiries. Anything we do for you is agreed separately, in writing.
Do you work outside the four counties?
The mountains are the business, and the four counties are the boundary. If your question sits just outside it, ask anyway. You will get a straight yes or a straight no, not a maybe.
Why the name? Why the weather talk?
Because the valley gets a lot of wind and a lot of hot air, and this desk deals in neither. The anemometer on the homepage is retired. We measure nothing we cannot show you.
